Doubling Garden Space

2021 - Red Hen Expands

Red Hen garden has made massive improvements since it was first brought into the fold in 2019. The first year was about getting cedar roots out of the beds and upgrading the irrigation. In 2022, Red Hen doubled it's size with six raised beds nicely sided with rough sawn wood by Kevin Gale, and four long rows of free form gardens seen here with Amy Does spreading the soil around. Behind her you can see the new compost bins which were also built by Kevin.

If you're thinking about expanding, talk to the Red Hen volunteers first -- they'll tell you what to do and what to NEVER do again... learning curves are in gardens, too.

During this time, the garden also went through a name change to make it clearer as to what was a Food Bank Garden and what was a RainCoast Farms garden. (Red Hen is located on RainCoast land.)
