FAQ for New Volunteers

Answers to FAQs

Q: How much produce is given away each year?

Our highest year was 2021 with a total of 18,000 pounds from the growers and 18,000 pounds from the gleaners. Every year is different as the crops we plant and the cold/hot/wet weather conditions.

Q: Who does the FBG serve?

Primarily food banks in Port Townsend, Tri-Area, Quilcene, and Brinnon. We also donate to schools and non-profits in the area.

Q: Where are the Gardens?

We have gardens and orchards on farms, schools, private and public land…

Go to the map page and see where they located and cover. Once you are with a garden, the Garden Manager will become your link to that garden and FBG.

Q: Can I “glean" as well as “grow”?

Sure. Many of our growers also show up at the  fall gleaning opportunities. We provide the ladders, picking bags, and weekly organization. Gleaners are on a separate email list that informs volunteers of what’s ripe each week. (Link to gleaner page)

Q: How do I donate garden tools?

Contact  FBGGardenCoordinator@gmail.com  for tool placement.

Q: I can’t commit to every week, but would like to help.

Throughout the year we hold work parties for one-time projects such as building fences or chipping a garden. The front page calendar and the Newsletter will flag those opportunities.

Q: I want to donate a garden space or orchard. Who do I contact?

FBGGardenCoordinator@gmail.com  for the garden space.

PTGleaning@gmail.com  for trees -- apple/pear/asian pear/plum is our focus,

but we also consider fig and other stone fruits.
