Gleaners honored by PT School Board

12 years and thousands of pounds of fruit

Seth Rolland and supportive gleans were honored this month at the Port Townsend School Board meeting. Seth started the group in 2010 ish when the gleaners first picked backyard fruit and delivered part of it to Blue Huron Middle School. Today the fruit goes directly into the kitchen (4200 pounds of it) and the Blue Heron Students pick fruit to eat from the orchard on the school property.

The orchard now produces over 2000 predictable pounds a year and teaches volunteers and students how to prune, thin, pick, and graft trees.
