Garden Reorganization

Bring your shovels, buckets, and backs...

Left: Kathy Ryan digs in and helps spring weeds into their afterlife as compost. Inside the fence, Noreen Andrews and Co-Op Garden Manager Ruth Blyther begin cleanup in this small, but productive garden.

March 2, 2024

Saturday was garden pick up day at theCo-Opand atSalish Coastgardens. The Co-Op garden is not only getting a clean face, but a facelift as well changing its layout from a meandering path to straight rows and paths which will be easier to work and water.  Later that day, Salish benefited from three hours of shelf reorganization for tools and trays to make way for new seedlings.

The big job of the day at the Co-op Garden was removing 5 inches of gravel from the path and redistributing it outside along the trail. The gravel path was on top of weed cloth and nicely edged years ago, but the weeds still found a way in and became a pain to pick out week after week. The new, straighter walkways will have a layer of cardboard and then mulched.

With the help of volunteers Kathy, Amy, Noreen, Doug, Ruth, and Mary, the two hour job was done in half the time. Thank you all for your help on a rainy/HAILy day.

Next Co-Op Work Party: On March 16th (10-12)

Task: Add new soil mulch the rows.
