Ladders Down / Drink up!

PT Gleaners gather to sqeeze out the last of the season.

On the heels of the FBG/PTGleaner Volunteer Dinner, the PT Gleaners held their Big Squeeze Party  on Sunday and put over 1000+ pounds of apples through the chipper and then pressed.  Our thanks to Bill for lending out his covered driveway again to keep things moving along even if it rained (it didn't). Seth and Kathy organized equipment and people. Jim  and Tom brought their presses, Mary brought the chipper, and everyone contributed apples by picking them just days before.

The Big Squeeze is an interesting event in that new and old "cider makers" arrive, find something they want to do, and get to work. If they get tired, they move to another task or grab a bite off the snack table along with a glass of fresh-tapped cider. Many showed up this year and moved from task to task as room allowed at the chopping tables.

While we still have more apples to pick before calling a season, the current take for the year is over 11,000 pounds of fruit, picked one-by-one and given away.
