Meet Lee BeBout, FBG Board Secretary 2024-27

From micro to macro growing.

Lee Bebout  may be new to Port Townsend and to the FBG.org, but she is loaded with experience and gumption.

As the incoming FBG secretary, Lee will be at ground zero learning quickly what it takes to keep this organization running efficiently. She will be responsible for meeting minutes and reminders. No small task. There is no faster way to learn how a group ticks then taking notes and archiving them correctly.

Her pre-retirement job was environmental microbial ecology (study of relationships between microbes and their environments) in marine, and extreme environments at NASA. Projects ranged from looking at how microbes on Earth influence minerals and the atmosphere, to applications for production of biofuels and food. Part of the work focused on learning how to cultivate challenging microalgal species. However, she may find that it was much easier than growing tomatoes in Port Townsend. Lee and her husband Brad continue to experiment with close-to-home food via their greenhouse and garage-based aquaponics set up for growing trout, vegetables and herbs.

We're looking forward to Lee's fresh eyes on our processes and the enthusiasm she brings to the position.
