Greetings volunteers and community members

As Spring begins to peak through the folds of the seasons, we are already donning our work gloves and really getting to work! Though this last week was a good reminder that we are still in winter and must protect our precious starts. With the growing season fast approaching, our volunteer opportunities begin to pick up and we hope you'll join us! 

But first, a few important upcoming events:
 
There will be a
Pop-Up Plant Sale at Birchyville Food Bank Garden will be Saturday March 12, 10-2 -- 100% of the proceeds benefit all eleven Food Bank Gardens, growing, gathering and giving fresh produce to our community's food banks. Please see below for more details, but know there are raspberry plants galore!


The following are some items available for sale:

  • Bare root TulaMagic raspberries, 5 for $25. Berries are long season, very large and sweet. They're budding out and need to be planted!
  • 1 gallon potted Tulameen raspberries $3 each. June bearing provides sweetness for several months.
  • 1 gallon orange crocosmia. Just about to peek out to greet the spring. Great for filling in spaces, deer resistant. $3 each.
  • Seasoned Bamboo stakes! 4' to 10' bundles to choose from. Perfect for building your bean trellis, augmenting your deer fence, and staking up plants.
  • Potted bamboo, several species, and more!

    Please park at 206 Hancock Street and walk through Birchyville Food Bank Garden to find the plants of your dreams!

 
Growing Groceries starts on March 16th
and runs until April 20th, meeting every Wednesday. This class is hosted by the WSU Extension and is a great opportunity for everyone, no matter how much or how little experience they have. It will cover topics such as planting calendars, seeding starting and transplanting, crop rotation, as well as beneficial insects and pollinators. 
 

Goosefoot Farm is looking for propane tanks for their flame weeder.
If you have any that you do not have a current use for and would like to pass on, please let us know!
 

Our Annual Fundraiser and plant sale will be April 30. While we are still preparing, keep it mind as a great place to buy starts for your garden! We will have fruit and veggies starts, as well as herbs and flowers to Greetings volunteers and community members!

Birchyville - Earn Your Eggs!

M, W, F - 10-12
With chickens and ducks at the Birchyville Food Bank Garden there are opportunities to work in the gardens and get to know the animals. You can even earn a dozen eggs when you volunteer!


Spring Fundraiser

We will be hosting our plant sale again in April and will need volunteers in the weeks leading up to help us pot starts for the sale. If you are interested in helping out, please let me know so we can contact you directly as the dates approach!
